About Me

My photo
I'm a hand-holding, swing-pushing, story-telling Mama with a creative streak and a nurturing spirit. I like growing food and flowers (and people, hehe), sewing clothes and quilts, cooking and eating and running, a long, tight hug and the color yellow. I love date nights at home, spontaneous trips to the bookstore and hearing my babies laugh. I am indecisive, exaggerrative and I overuse parentheses. I am reflective and sentimental and quick to laugh. I think I still picture myself as a 22-year old, yet every year my life gets more fulfilling. I am still figuring out exactly who I am. :)

Sewing for Myself: Ideas

The kids are fairly well-clothed for the time, so I've been gathering ideas for my own wardrobe.

I've been thinking a lot lately about my style- both in decorating our home (because let's face it- Noah doesn't care, bless him!) and my clothing.

Searching through online catalogs, sewing patterns and fashion photos as well as thinking about my lifestyle and practicality, I've come up with a few words to describe my ideal style: feminine, casual and colorful.

Things I love: full skirts, feminine fabrics and colors, stripes and dots and comfy shoes.

And some images:

from www.style.com - not in this color, but I love the style and the big dots.

 from www.shopruche.com - in navy!!

next few from www.jcrew.com - these next few are actually children's clothes, but I love them!

Whew!! Now I'm in the mood to go sew!

I am almost done with a dress inspired by this one from www.etsy.com :
I even installed a zipper for the first time! :)

I both love and hate sewing clothes for myself.

I love being able to see something and think, "I can totally make that."
I hate that I have to pick and choose what to work on!! Haha!!

And while the vision often doesn't translate to the finished product, I can honestly say that every time I sew a garment, I learn something new.

That, my friends, makes it worth it.

Because gosh darn it, one day I want to make my daughters a fancy prom/wedding dress (sorry Alexander, I don't know if a tuxedo will be in the mix, hehe. Love you to pieces though!) :)

Can't Help But Be Happy Today!

This day is so beautiful- a visit from my brother for lunch, 75 degrees and we've been outside all day!
Cuties playing "night-night" while I shower

a typical Lucy smile

Claire's basketball camp that was so good for her- she learned lots of new things, she was challenged and she had fun.

She made quite a few baskets too!

Playing school with the treadmill as the bus.

And a new embroidery for my etsy shop. :)

There it is again!

"Haha Mama, I"m not going to open my eyes for you!!"

"I'm 4!" (This was from his birthday, obviously)
