I talk a lot about our kids and what I've been making them, but not a lot about him.
It is a busy time of year for him, water polo season.
This year, and especially now, with his team going undefeated into the post season (first time ever!), the pressure is on in ways I can only imagine.
Last year, they were the underdogs, with nothing to lose.
This year they're perched precariously at the top, with all the other teams aiming at their spot.
It's tough when what is expected of you is nothing less than perfection.
| I can just see the worry in those hands on his hips |
| a crucial time-out just before a close win |
Sometimes it's hard to remember that all of this is really small potatoes, that in the grand scheme, the important things are how he has taught his players to be determined, dedicated and respectful, to lose gracefully and win even more gracefully, and to have fun in the process.
He works so hard and is so honorable in everything he does, it feels so good to be able to make his favorite dinner and dessert and be the sanctuary where he can relax.
The next couple weeks will be the most stressful of his coaching career, and I just hope he can remember that no matter how his team does, his four biggest fans will be there waiting to hug him when it's all over.
Good luck, babe.
We'll be watching. :)
