About Me

My photo
I'm a hand-holding, swing-pushing, story-telling Mama with a creative streak and a nurturing spirit. I like growing food and flowers (and people, hehe), sewing clothes and quilts, cooking and eating and running, a long, tight hug and the color yellow. I love date nights at home, spontaneous trips to the bookstore and hearing my babies laugh. I am indecisive, exaggerrative and I overuse parentheses. I am reflective and sentimental and quick to laugh. I think I still picture myself as a 22-year old, yet every year my life gets more fulfilling. I am still figuring out exactly who I am. :)

Currently

Reading: Writing Motherhood, by Lisa Garrigues

Marveling: fall is beginning to show itself despite triple digits and such poor air quality water polo games and practices have been canceled (which means Noah has been home for dinner twice in a row!)
Eating: Sausage Spaghetti and the fudgiest from-scratch brownies ever

Running: with Little Buddy and Littlest Angel in the jogger after we drop off Angel Girl in the morning. The little one usually falls asleep while the boy occupies himself with crackers and a promise to stop at the park on the way home.

Neglecting (on purpose): laundry and floor-cleaning(what's new??)

Sewing: not as much as I want to

Hulu-ing: Glee, Modern Family, Daily Show, Cougar Town and Brothers & Sisters (so, too much)

Cheering: as she learns to skate: alone on the grass, and holding my hand on slippery surfaces

Singing: to Little Buddy before bed, no less than 7 songs, always in the same order. :)

Kissing: the back of Littlest Angel's neck. I just did it again. :)

and Thinking: about Uncle Clifton and when he will be free from his suffering.

Playing with the camera

After getting frustrated with my skills using the manual modes on my newish d-slr (a birthday gift), I decided to give the automatic mode a try.

I'm slowly working my way through the manual so I can really use the camera to its full potential, but for now, I'm really pleased with Auto!

The colors seem so vibrant, I can still achieve different effects with blurriness/focus, and I don't have to fiddle with aperture, ISO, metering, etc.

Also, I just got Photoshop and that helps too. It's amazing the things it can fix and enhance! I know I've only scratched that surface, which is really exciting!

So for now, a photo of each. :)

A new fall dress

I call it the Fall Apples Dress, for obvious reasons. :)

Got the pattern here: Oliver + S

I sewed the dress for this week's Kids Clothes Week Challenge. Find out more about it here.

I have found that doing things in 10-15 minute pockets of time is how things like this get done. I sew a few seams while the kidlets are eating breakfast or when they are busy with their own projects or especially when they ask me to sew (lately this has been Little Buddy).

And no, the ironing board in the middle of the dining room and the sewing machine occupying its own corner (okay, half) of the table is not the most beautiful thing.

But it sure is beautiful to have it all ready to go if and when a few serendipitous minutes of crafty time present themselves. :)

Next up: blue corduroy pants for my boy. The pieces have been cut and marked, the pockets stitched and pinned to their respective pant leg...bring it on! :)

8 months

* scooting (using her arms to pull the rest of her body along)
* crawling
* climbing up on the entryway (eek! She's unstoppable!)
* everything in the mouth (double EEK!)
* cheerios, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas, avocado (all but the first made or mashed from scratch)
* prefers to feed herself (either with her fingers or her spoon and sometimes by simply licking her tray...) and still not totally thrilled with the whole solids thing
* her hair is starting to grow in on the sides of her head making her mowhawk a tad less prominent
* ticklish, especially on those chunky monkey thighs and especially when Daddy is the tickler
* "da-da" sometimes meaning Daddy (especially when he first gets home from work or up in the morning), sometimes just to make sounds.
* sleeps in between us at night and in my lap or on my shoulder during the day, and this is how we like it
* almost too big for the bjorn
* fell of the bed while I was in the bathroom washing out her diaper. :( I FREAKED out, but she didn't cry all that much, and there wasn't even a bump.
* has her playthings limited to those of the fabric and wooden variety due to their propensity to end up in her mouth. No BPA or any other toxic chemicals, thank you very much.
* kicks her legs and squeals when the big kids wake up from their naps
* often falls asleep in the stroller on our way to drop her big sister off at school

Only eight months old and I can't imagine how I was so happy before she came along. :)

Four

** Pardon the lateness. I think I was in denial. :)

The most important birthdays in my life are not my own anymore.

They aren't my other half's either, though it is fun to tease him about how close he is getting to 30, hehe.

Nope, now it is all about the little ones.

For on those days it is impossible to not remember.

Remember a time before them. (Seems impossible there was such a time.)

Remember preparing for them. (What felt like an eternity then feels like a mere moment now.)

Remember talking to them, singing to them, feeling them before we could hold them.

Remember their journey from womb to arms, whether it lasted 35 minutes (littlest) or 7 hours (biggest) or four days (middlest- darn those NICU wires...).

Remember the moment I first saw them.

This time it was the biggest's turn.

She got a kiss and a whispered "I love you," at 1:22am on the dot.

It is her whose birth we just celebrated, she who has been my Angel Girl for four years now.

It is her who loves pink and books (especially big-girl chapter books lately) and Dinosaur Train and doodling and leotards and school and hanging upside-down on the monkey bars.

It is her who is so sensitive and easily frustrated and surprisingly insightful.

It is her whom I love.

Happy 4th birthday Angel Girl! Notice Little Teddy in his cradle- he had to be in on the action!

Friday night = Daddy plays a few songs on Guitar Hero. :)

After naps we have craft time, which often entails the kids picking out a punch, finding some paper and going to town! :)
